Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 4, 2026

My Indiana Living (“the site,” “we,” “us”) is a personal content website at myindianaliving.com, run from Indiana in the United States. This policy explains what information is collected when you visit, why, and what choices you have. It is written to cover visitors from anywhere, including California and the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland.

The short version

  • We do not sell your personal information.
  • We do not build profiles of visitors or keep our own database about you.
  • A few outside services that help run the site (hosting, spam filtering, the newsletter, and advertising) do process some information. Each is described below.
  • You can browse the site without giving us any personal information.

Information you choose to give us

  • Newsletter sign-up. If you subscribe, your email address is collected and stored by our email service provider (for example, Mailchimp) so the newsletter can be sent to you. Every email includes an unsubscribe link.
  • Comments. If you leave a comment, the site stores the name, email address and comment you enter, along with your IP address and browser type, to help detect spam. Comments are checked by the Akismet anti-spam service.
  • Messages to us. If you email us, we receive whatever you choose to send and use it only to reply.

Information collected automatically

  • Server logs. Like nearly every website, our hosting provider records standard technical details such as IP address, browser type, pages requested and the date and time. These logs are used to keep the site secure and working.
  • Security records. The site records IP addresses connected to failed login attempts to protect against break-ins.
  • Cookies. Small files stored by your browser. See the next section.

Cookies and your choices

The site uses these kinds of cookies:

  • Necessary: needed for the site to work and to remember your cookie choices.
  • Functional: for example, remembering your name and email in the comment form if you ask it to.
  • Analytics: used to understand, in aggregate, which pages are read. Set only if an analytics service is in use and you allow it.
  • Advertising: set by advertising partners when ads are shown. See “Advertising” below.

When you first visit, a cookie banner lets you accept, reject or customize non-essential cookies, and you can change your choice at any time using the cookie settings button on the site. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.

Advertising (Google AdSense)

The site may display ads through Google AdSense. When ads are shown:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site or other websites.
  • Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet.
  • You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info/choices.
  • Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are shown personalized ads only if they consent.
  • To learn more, see how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Affiliate links

Some posts may contain affiliate links. If you click one, the retailer or its affiliate network may set a cookie on your device so a purchase can be credited to this site. We receive only summary reports of commissions earned and never receive your name, payment details or order contents. See the Affiliate Disclosure for more.

Fonts and embedded content

The site loads fonts from Google Fonts, and some pages may include embedded content such as videos. These services receive your IP address in order to deliver the content and may behave as if you had visited their own websites.

How information is used, and the legal basis

  • With your consent: sending the newsletter, and setting non-essential cookies including advertising cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time.
  • For our legitimate interests: keeping the site secure, preventing spam, displaying comments, and understanding in general terms how the site is used.
  • To meet legal obligations: where the law requires it.

Who information is shared with

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. Information is shared only with service providers that help run the site, each under its own privacy policy:

  • our web hosting provider;
  • Automattic (Akismet), for comment spam filtering;
  • our email service provider, for the newsletter;
  • Google, for fonts and advertising.

We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the site and its visitors.

How long information is kept

  • Newsletter email addresses are kept until you unsubscribe or ask to be removed.
  • Comments and their details are kept for as long as the comment stays on the site. You can ask for a comment to be deleted.
  • Server and security logs are kept for a limited period by our hosting provider and security tools and are then deleted.

International transfers

The site and its service providers are based in the United States. If you visit from outside the United States, your information will be processed there. Where required, our providers rely on recognized safeguards such as the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses.

Your rights in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland

Under the General Data Protection Regulation and similar laws, you have the right to:

  • access the personal data held about you;
  • have it corrected or deleted;
  • restrict or object to its processing;
  • receive it in a portable format;
  • withdraw consent at any time; and
  • lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

To use any of these rights, contact us using the details below. We will respond within one month.

Your rights in California

California residents may have the right to know what personal information is collected about them, to have it deleted or corrected, and to opt out of its sale or sharing, and they will not be treated differently for using these rights.

  • We do not sell personal information for money.
  • Advertising cookies may count as “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising under California law. You can opt out by rejecting advertising cookies in the cookie banner and through Google Ads Settings.
  • We do not disclose personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing purposes.
  • Do Not Track: the site does not currently respond to browser Do Not Track signals. Use the cookie banner to control tracking instead.

Children

The site is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, or under 16 in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and it will be deleted.

Security

The site uses encryption (HTTPS) and security tools to protect information. No website can guarantee complete security, but reasonable care is taken.
